How to make sure your ring is a perfect fit

When it comes to selecting jewellery, there are plenty of factors which need to be considered. Whilst the appearance of the item is what will immediately draw your attention, you need to check that the sizing is appropriate – especially when shopping for rings.

Measure your finger

The first step in making sure your ring fits perfectly is measuring your finger. The most accurate way of doing this is by visiting your local jeweller and having you finger professionally measured.

If you’re planning on buying jewellery online or prefer to measure your fingers at home, some leading jewellery retailers have handy ring size charts which you can download and print to use at home.

It is important to remember that all of your fingers will be different sizes so you must take measurements for the finger you intend to wear the ring on.

Check existing jewellery

In addition to measuring your fingers, it may also be worth checking your existing jewellery. We all have different preferences on how tight or loose we want jewellery and rings to be and you’ll know which rings feel comfortable on your hands.

Ask yourself whether your existing rings are too tight or if there is too much movement when worn. You can use the size of these rings as a rough guide when shopping for new jewellery.

Try it on

How a ring feels will tell you whether or not it is the right fit. When shopping for rings you need to make sure that your chosen item fits snugly to the point that it will not fall off but without constricting blood-flow or being uncomfortably tight.

Wearing rings which are too small will cut into your finger, causing depressions which can often become permanent features. If your fingers swell or expand (due to heat or any other condition) then you may find you are unable to remove your ring.

To avoid these problems you should always make sure you try rings on and see how they feel. If you experience any discomfort or problems, then return the item and replace it with an alternative product or the same item but in a different size. Most retailers accept returns on items of jewellery such as rings, so you don’t need to worry about losing your money if you have purchased the item online.

Remember that rings are something you’ll want to show off. No matter what style they are or what finger they’re worn on, always invest in rings which fit perfectly so that you can smile with comfort when holding out your hand to the admiration of others.
